A Marketer's Guide To Generator Maintenance

A Marketer's Guide To Generator Maintenance

I recently had the pleasure of onboarding an international partnership, and during that experience, I realized that while everyone values uptime, the steps to secure it — enter preventative maintenance — aren’t always well understood.

And while we might gloss over the subject of PMs, for audiences that don’t interact with generators every day, the details of what to do and when can get a little murky… or dare I say, a bit wet stacky?

That’s why I created this short-form guide: A Marketer’s Guide to Generator Maintenance.

This guide breaks down what generator maintenance really means in plain language, showing how simple, scheduled care can prevent major downtime, save thousands in repairs, and keep operations “Always On.”

A Simple Look at the Essentials

Instead of pages of technical data, the guide offers concise snapshots of the core maintenance services every facility should understand:

  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): The difference between “Major” and “Minor” PMs — and how both work together to keep generators reliable.
  • Remote Monitoring: Why a small antenna can make a big difference by catching issues before they cause outages.
  • Load Bank Testing: The ultimate “real-world test” that ensures your generator performs under pressure.
  • Fluid & Coolant Checks: Simple steps that prevent up to 80% of generator failures.
  • Fuel Polishing: A quick but often-overlooked process that keeps fuel clean and systems efficient.

Each section includes easy watch-outs and recommendations, so even non-technical readers can make informed decisions about their maintenance schedules.

Save Time and Drive Confidence

Chances are, if you’re on the Managed Generator Services LinkedIn page, you already have plenty of experience with generator care and maintenance. So while you might not need this guide, go ahead and download it anyway — and save it for your summer intern or new hire.

We know you’re juggling multiple priorities, and creating a PM guide doesn’t need to be one of them. Just use ours! (I’ll even send you an editable copy if you’d like.)

However, if you’re new to the industry or just looking to learn more, this guide can help you feel confident about what needs to happen — and when. It also includes a few helpful tips and conversation starters for talking with your generator technician or maintenance provider. They’ll not only boost your credibility but also help ensure you’re getting the best service possible.

Have you ever noticed that everyone talks about uptime — but not everyone understands what actually keeps it going? During a recent international partnership onboarding, I realized just how often the basics of generator care and preventative maintenance get overlooked or overcomplicated. That’s why I put together A Marketer’s Guide to Generator Maintenance — a simple, non-technical snapshot for anyone who needs a quick, reliable way to understand how to keep operations running “Always On.” Whether you’re new to the industry, training new team members, or just want to sound a little more confident when your generator tech starts talking about “load banks” and “wet stacking,” this guide is for you.
